Jackson Bolt: Washington the Warrior

Jackson Bolt, one of our very own, is George Washington in The History Channel’s “Washington the Warrior.”

If you missed last night’s Premiere of “Washington the Warrior”, it will be aired again this Saturday, June 3rd, at 8pm.

I had the pleasure of working all day with Jackson right after he returned from Lithuania (where they shot WtW) and on his first day back to Deadwood. He’s been featured for the past few years on the show, but I had never met him prior. His anecdotes from time spent filming WtW were incredible, and for those of you who don’t know Jackson, he is an intelligent and well-versed guy, and in person, his stature and strength (and humor aside) make his casting to portray Washington obvious.

Jackson has been doing press for “Washington” and the links below are for articles at MSNBC and The Washington Post.

Fun with Damon!

Recently, Damon Viola, Jesse Mendoza, Sam Neely, Mike Dixon and others worked as “Pharisees” in a new film.

Damon shot a few photos on the set…….

….then added a little twist of his own.

No camels were harmed in the photo-shopping of these pictures!

H.R.H. Crown Prince Richard Buckley

Richard Buckley worked most of season 3 on Deadwood (unless he was romping in Hawaii) and we’ll never forget his and Pablo’s (Big Red from Argentina) entertaining music.

C.P.R. is the youngest son of famed comedian Lord Buckley and you can visit Richard’s site on eBay for his and his father’s CDs. (see links below)

Richard has been playing original music for a long time (his and Red’s versions were very soulful with a certain South American slant) and he has the dubious honor of being the focus of one of Jimmy Buffet’s songs: The Lawyer and the Asshole. BTW: Richard is not an attorney! Here’s a link to JB’s song.

If you live around Orange County, you may have seen Richard’s poster for the new season. Click on the photo below for a full size version.

Buddy, can you spare $60 million?

One of the nicest guys on set is Nick Amandos (Jack the Bartender in the Bella Union) who just sent over the heads-up on an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer (Philly.com).

Here’s an exerpt:

‘Deadwood’ creator scrambling to save HBO drama
By Gail Shister
Inquirer Columnist

Buddy, can you spare $60 million?

With HBO’s Deadwood hanging on by a bootstrap, creator David Milch hopes to raise enough outside cash to save his brilliant - and expensive - western.

“I’m doing what I can,” Milch says. “Any financial participation could take the pressure off. HBO hasn’t said no… . If I were a gambling guy, which I am, I’d say odds are less than even money.”

Milch says he’s looking into possible tie-ins with casinos and theme parks as well as with the actual community of Deadwood, S.D. Imaginative marketing, he calls it.

Deadwood Ink: Los Angeles Magazine

The June issue of Los Angeles Magazine includes an article on Deadwood’s Background Players written by Matthew Duersten. It’s available now at newstands and “HOLLYWOOD IS BACK!” is on the cover–so close to being “Hollywood is Background!”

The article includes a coulple of photos: Bob Parks, Mitch Toles, Mark McCaw (Schitz), Carl Virden (Giggles), and myself.

Matthew interviewed a small group of guys (Mick Lea, Mike Dixson, Russell Wadle, Bob Wyld, Tom Crnkovich, Jesse Wills, and I was there too) at a little pub in Burbank. He also visited the set the last week of shooting and was able to talk to some of the other guys. The article is a human interest piece on how some Deadwood BPs may resemble a few the boys who found themselves in the real Deadwood circa 1876. Mick, Russell, Jesse and Ralph are quoted in the article, the Dirty Dozen “Leper Colony” is discussed, and the Deadwood Blog is mentioned.

Paul Dennis of The Real Deadwood Podcast in Deadwood, SD has been interviewing some of the cast and background regarding the cancellation–Look for his podcasts soon!

SundaysChild, from the HBO Community Boards, left the following message in the comments:

We at the HBO Deadwood Community Board are disgusted and devastated at HBO’s decision not to renew the actors’ contracts. All of us.. the fans, actors, Mr. Milch and every one of you had been promised a fourth season of the most incredible television series ever made.  We may not know exactly what you do every day, but believe me, we sure as hell appreciate it.  We know this program wouldn’t exist without you.  And now we want you to know that we’re working our butts off to do what we can to get you back to work and us back in front of our tv screens on Sunday nights.

We’ve created a website, http://www.savedeadwood.net/index.htm

Since we received this horrible news last week, we’ve been working our tails off on a massive email, telephone, letter-writing, word of mouth, etc. campaign to get DEADWOOD it’s deserved full fourth season. We’re reaching out to media nationwide.  We’re bombarding HBO, Time-Warner, cable companies, blogs, newspapers, t.v. stations, etc. with letters and emails.  Now we’re getting out the big guns and have launched a pledge drive to place a full page ad in next Thursday’s National Edition of Daily Variety.  In only 30 hours we’ve received approximately 45% of our goal of $6,475.00.  We believe this ad will reach a huge industry audience.  We can only hope it’s successful, but we’re more than willing to try.  We haven’t given up and we ain’t goin’ down without a fight.

Now we need your help.  Please let everyone you know who loves Deadwood about our campaign.  Please ask them to help in any way they can.  Writing letters, sending emails, making calls, etc.  We have tons of information on the HBO bulletin board. They needn’t be shy about posting a question or comment or emailing any of us through the board’s link (done by clicking on our user name) if they wish.  Also, please ask them to spread the word about our ad campaign and include a link in any correspondence they send out. The website is: http://www.savedeadwood.net/pledge.htm

However this turns out, we sincerely thank each and every one of you for giving us the best damn time we’ve ever had… DEADWOOD.

                                                                                All good wishes,

What’s Going On?

It’s been a busy week with some NEW info to rifle through:

1) First off, the Deadwood Quilting Bee was a blast–If you would like to read more about Sacred Cowboys and/or King Straggler, here are a few links to previous posts about them and their respective websites:

DWQB 1        DWQB 2        Sacred Cowboys        King Straggler

As well, we all had a great time celebrating Leah Cevoli”s Birthday (night 2 of 3)

Happy Birthday Leah!

2) I have received a bunch of new photos from the guys and they’ll get posted over the next few weeks.

3) Many of the BPs may remember Sky McDougall from season 2. He recently sent a very nice email to the blog and extends his best wishes to all the guys. Sky has a recurring role on Passions (37 episodes) and his website is top-notch–check it out here!

4) And the big news that hit this week is the series cancellation of Deadwood. In speaking with several other BPs, there are several ideas we would like to try here at Deadwood Blog:

We have all had an interesting adventure and made new friends on set at Melody Ranch and Frazier Park, and if any of the BPs would like to relay their recollections of the past few years, please send them over by email or add your thoughts to one of the upcoming posts from another BP.

It’s in the Front Room at the Knitting Factory–a great place to see the boys.

I’ve talked to some of the guys and it looks like there will be quite a few in attendance, and Leah Cevoli will be celebrating her Birthday on and off stage.
